James Patrick Updike has been interested in writing since he wrote his first picture storybook at the age of three, and his first fully realized short story at the age of 10. James has written short stories, plays, television scripts, a role-playing game, and a novel, and currently has several projects in the works.

James has had over a dozen short stories as well as a novel published on The Writer's Hood , an internet Magazine for up and coming authors. He served there as Fantasy Editor for almost two years.

James was one of the winning author's in the Writer's Digest Magazine Short Story contest for the year 2000. James has also appeared in the glossy magazine Pangaia.

James also has worked in the theater, having acted in over 30 plays and having co-directed regional premiers of Cannibal! The Musical by Trey Parker and The Confidence Man by Ray Errol Fox & Jim Steinman
